Why A Consistent Skincare Routine is Important

When it comes to skincare, consistency is key! It’s no surprise, especially living in a culture that gives us everything instantly, that we want to see those instant results from skincare… BUT caring for our skin remains something to be patient with.

Trying out new trends, new brands as well as the usual trial and error of curating a skincare routine that works for you, is totally normal and changes are to be expected here and there, but it’s so important to note that laziness with your skincare routine is one thing that will never produce any results! It’s okay to change it up every once in a while, but sticking to a consistent routine is so key!

 

Let’s also quickly talk about having realistic goals for yourself when it comes to your skin and skincare as a whole. Skin smoothing social media filters and facetuning have us thinking smooth, poreless skin is the norm, but let me stop you right there… IT’S NOT! The truth is, real skin has texture, aging is completely natural, and everyone is different! This journey is very much your own, so don’t let the unrealistic standards set by society give you an unrealistic vision of what this should look like for you. It’s time to feel good in your own skin!

With all of that being said, know that realistic results ARE possible! Skincare is one thing, along with nutrition, hydration, and exercise, that will help you inch closer to that glowing, plump skin we all desire. But I’ll say it again… consistency is KEY! So let’s dive into this a little more.

It’s so important to note that your skin works at night to repair itself so you need to do your part to remove your makeup and apply your skincare products (as many or as few as that may be) to allow your skin to do its job while you sleep!

Don’t forget that skincare is not a magic potion!! This means that visible results won’t just happen overnight! Moisturizing occasionally doesn’t count as a skincare routine, and sadly your poor, dry skin will never see long term benefits without commitment.

 

Think about it… if you worked out for 2 days, would you lose weight? What about a month? Now we’re getting somewhere!

 

Consistency with skincare does not have to be a huge burden! We all live busy lives and often it’s so easy to skip over these important parts of our day, but the truth is… consistency only means a few minutes in the morning and the evening. All it takes for gorgeous skin is a few short minutes!

Once you get into the habit of consistently sticking to a skincare routine, you won’t be able to live without it! You’ll notice that suddenly, that pesky, daunting routine will become a non-negotiable and you’ll actually look forward to those few minutes of “me time” each morning and night. So turning this into a habit is so important!

Finally, here’s a few simple tips to help you stay consistent…

  • Keep a reminder by your toothbrush

  • Set a reminder on your phone

  • Create a self-care ritual out of it so that it feels more like a treat than a chore

  • Treat yourself to new skincare products that you’ve been wanting to try and a new bag to keep them in that you’re excited to use!
