A Body of Work
The vision behind the Body Project sparked from thinking of the beauty of women. ALL women. Regardless of their shape, size, color, or scars. Women are beautiful and our bodies… they are incredible vessels that tell the unique story of our lives. Our bodies endure love, some endure trauma, some create new life and all take us on this journey called life. The truth is, our bodies are so much more than just skin. They are a work of art.
Together, Nicole Beker of NKB Photo and I longed to find a way to honor these bodies and the lives of women. Inspiration included the work of contemporary artist, Sara Shakeel, & the Japanese art of Kintsugi. With the help of Nicole’s tactful eye for detail and creative composition and makeup used to highlight body marking and stretch marks, we share this story: A Body of Work.
The experience of this project was truly incredible. Initially seeking a few models on social media, we were overwhelmed with interest & messages from so many women connecting with our vision. The intimate shoots led to intimate conversations. We shared stories and passions with so much vulnerability. Some shared their past traumas while some shared they wanted to empower the younger generation and remind them to love their bodies! We quickly realized this project was much bigger than us. As Nicole and I discussed how to share this project, so many ideas whirled through our heads, but in the end, we decided instead of longing for perfection… we simply needed to share it.
It is truly our hope that as you look through these images and read some of the experiences and takeaways from the brave women involved, that you will look at yourself and stop seeing your imperfections, but instead see your story & your journey. Skin is in x
