Questions To Ask Your Makeup Artist Before Booking

Hi there bride-to-be! If you stumbled upon this blog post, you may be planning your dream wedding day and the next step for you is booking a makeup artist. Let me help! I’ve worked with hundreds of brides, and the first thing I do, even before booking, is talk on the phone with them! This allows us to get a chance to know each other, lets me hear a little bit more about their wedding day AND gives them the chance to ask me any questions they may have. I honestly think this is an essential place to start to make sure you both are a perfect fit for each other. Like the idea, but not sure what to ask? Keep reading for my SIX top questions to ask before booking your wedding day makeup artist!!

01. Do you have a minimum (or maximum) number of girls you require for services?

Bridal parties come in all sizes! However, some makeup artists require a certain number of services before they will travel on location. Be sure to know how many girls may be requiring services when you inquire!

*Tip: This also goes for very large parties where more than 1 artist is required. Be sure your makeup artist has other team members available to accommodate all services.

02. What information do you need to best plan out my wedding day?

Your makeup artist cannot plan out how to best accommodate you on your big day without some really important details! You want to make sure you can provide them with the right information at the right time to ensure your morning will run smoothly. Ask them what they may need & be prepared to provide them with that information when the time does come!

03. Are you willing to travel?

It’s important to be open about the location of where you’ll be getting ready, as it sometimes differs from the venue. Your makeup artist may be located in the same state as you, but may be quite the distance from your location. It’s important to ask if they will travel and, if so, if there are any additional fees that go along with that.

*Tip: This is something you can typically do a little research on beforehand by reading their website, checking their FAQs, or by googling their specific location, but it’s never a bad idea to ask anyway!!

04. Have you worked with *fill in the blank* before?

This is your time to ask them if they’ve dealt with any specific allergies or sensitivities that you know you struggle with! If you have allergies or concerns about products they may be using, ask this upfront! Make sure they’re confident and comfortable with your requests! You don’t want any unwanted reactions or allergies on your big day that could’ve been avoided by a simple question.

05. When can I book a trial?

Although there probably isn’t one specific answer to this, you can discuss with your makeup artist when might be the right time for you! While some prefer to trial prior to booking, others want to secure the date & worry about it closer to the wedding. Not sure what’s right for you? Then this question is important to ask!

06. What are the next steps for booking?

Once you make a decision, you’ll want to know how to lock in your date with your makeup artist! So be sure to know what steps are required to get the deal sealed!

Once you’ve booked the makeup artist that feels right for YOU, it’s totally understandable for you to have some more questions! Let me jump ahead of you real quickly and answer 3 of them I know you’re already thinking. Read these blog posts for answers to some of my most common questions:
