Skincare Basics: 5 Products to Start Caring for Your Skin

You want flawless skin and beautiful makeup application, right? It starts with your skincare routine! I know, there are so many products out there and it can be overwhelming. Today I’m sharing a simple, everyday skincare routine using only 5 products. It’s not as complicated as it sounds!

Step 1: Cleanse

Clean skin is the foundation of a skincare routine. Remove your makeup at night (I’ll show you how here!) and also cleanse again in the morning. A gentle cleanser like Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser is perfect!

Step 2: Toner

Using toner after cleansing further cleanses the skin and balances the delicate pH level of the skin that might have been disrupted by your cleanser. It can also shrink pores and is great for oily or problematic skin. The most popular toner is witch hazel, and I use Exuviance Soothing Toning Lotion. Just apply it all over your face using a cotton ball!

Facial sprays are growing in popularity and can be used in addition to a toner. The spray will hydrate and refresh the skin, while moistening it to prepare for smooth makeup application. I like this inexpensive Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater by Mario Badescu

Step 3: Serum

Serums are lightweight and absorb quickly, and there are so many options available, you can find one to address any skincare needs you might have! There are serums available to even skin tone, brighten, hydrate, or clear up breakouts. Mine is formulated to boost hydration: PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum.

Step 4: Moisturizer

I think we all know moisturizer is important, and you definitely know about my obsession with the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. This one is SO great for dry skin! If you’re looking for a lighter but equally as amazing option, try Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

Step 5: Sunscreen

Your mother has been telling you since you were a kid and it’s true, you need to be wearing sunscreen! The skin on your face is always exposed to the sun and requires extra protection. I recommend Supergoop! UNSEEN SUNSCREEN SPF 40. I promise, you’ll thank me for this piece of advice someday!
