Five Tips for Your Wedding Makeup Trial

The day of your bridal makeup trial is approaching and you’re so excited to get a preview of your wedding day look, but how are you supposed to prepare?! I’m here to help! Today I’m sharing five tips to ensure that you have the best makeup trial experience and feel as prepared as possible for your wedding day.

#1: Prep your skin

As we like to say in the beauty industry, “Your makeup is only as good as your skincare.” You want your skin to be in the best shape possible on your wedding day, right? There’s no better time to start than the present! Now’s the time to be religious about your skincare routine (if you have one) or figure out a skincare routine (if you don’t). Your makeup trial is also a great time to talk to your makeup artist about your skincare routine and ask for any recommendations they might have to get your skin ready for your big day. Find out what products work best for you and use them consistently and as directed, maybe even start getting regular facials too.

#2: Come with inspiration

Visuals are a great way to help your artist connect with the look you’re going for and Pinterest is a great place to start. Whether you have no idea what you’re looking for or you know exactly what you want, there’s so much inspiration! Create a bridal makeup board, save images you love, and bring the board to your makeup artist. This is a great way to discover your bridal style if you haven’t already, since your makeup artist can look at the images and find the commonalities. You can also look through the social media account of your artist and use their own images as your inspiration. He or she can easily make recommendations based on your coloring or replicate a look that’s already been created.

#3: Come with a clean face

Arrive at your trial with no makeup. And don’t use any new or aggressive products leading up to that day! This will ensure your skin isn’t irritated and is a clean palete for the makeup. On the morning of the trial, do your normal morning routine as you would on the morning of your wedding.

#4: Wear white (or close to it)

Most likely you’re wearing white or ivory or something similar on your wedding day, so it’s helpful to wear the same to your trial. This will help make sure the colors in your clothing aren’t reflecting on your face, and bold colors or patterns won’t throw off the hues of the colors being used.

You can even dress up a little if it helps you envision your final look.  You’ll be wearing a beautiful gown on your wedding day and wearing clothes that make you feel confident and put together to your trial will help you to feel like the bride-to-be that you are!

#5: Describe your everyday makeup routine to your artist

Telling your makeup artist about your daily routine can give them a glimpse into what parts of your makeup look are most important to you and the elements make you feel the most like yourself. Using this as a baseline for intensity, they can then amplify the look to make it more bridal and polished for your wedding day.
